Job Description
Supervises sport specific student-athletes and assistant coaches (if applicable) in accordance with the Gadsden Independent School District's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include adherence to the Gadsden Independent School District rules, regulations, and Athletic Philosophy; promoting and encouraging students to play sports; and treating student-athletes in a professional manner in conjunction with the athletic coordinator and campus principal.

Philosophy
- If a classroom teacher, gives priority to the professional performance, duties and responsibilities of classroom instruction.
- Sets and defines high levels of competitiveness, expectations, and character development.
- Encourages students to participate in the athletic program and individualized sport.
- Holds pre-season meeting with athletes and their parents to discuss philosophy, guidelines of the program, Code of Ethics, and responsibilities of the student-athlete. Prepares a written document in duplicate form that is to be signed by the parent. The school athletic coordinator and athletic director should receive a copy of this document prior to the parent meeting.
- Makes athletic participation "fun".
- Promotes individual sport and encourages participation and involvement among middle school and elementary school students within the school's attendance zone.

Is familiar with and follows the policies and guidelines of the Gadsden Independent School District and the New Mexico Activities Association.Knows district and state eligibility and transfer rules and follows them to the letter.Ensures that all required Gadsden Independent School District and New Mexico Activities Association paperwork is completed and signed on RANK ONE before student-athlete is allowed to practice or play.Adheres to the "Recruiting Guidelines" as established by the Athletic Department.Professional Responsibilities
Reports inappropriate behavior of any athletic personnel or participant to the Principal and School Athletic Coordinator.Supervises and evaluates assistant coaches, cooperatively with the School Athletic Coordinator, and assigns their respective duties and responsibilities.Is responsible to the Principal and Athletic Director for the entire program, grades 9 - 12.Attends professional meetings and clinics.Works continually with the Principal, Athletic Director, School Athletic Coordinator, and other coaches to upgrade the total athletic program.Does not allow an injured participant to play until cleared by the attending physicianTeam Work
Cooperates with and is responsive to the needs of other coaches and their athletic programs.Encourages athletes to participate in other sports.Cooperates with Athletic Coordinator and other coaches in the scheduling and use of facilities.Cooperates with the Athletic Director in arrangements made for travelProgram Development

In Season is considered to be from the first day of practice allowed by the NMAA until two weeks following the last game.Being present during Athletic Class is considered part of coaching duty. Compensation is via District Athletic Stipend.Note : Some sub-sections reference district-specific policies and may require localization to the City of Bremerton context.

Education And / or Experience
