Position Description :

The Baylor School of Music is seeking an experienced artist teacher to lead its Collaborative Piano Program. The successful candidate will teach, develop, and coordinate all aspects of the Collaborative Piano Program, and will contribute meaningfully within the collaborative piano field, both nationally and internationally. This full-time, tenure-track appointment will begin August 2026.

About the Keyboard Division and Collaborative Piano Program :

For more than three quarters of a century, Baylor University has been a center of advanced study for pianists and organists. With seven full-time, resident faculty members, the Baylor keyboard division boasts a strong tradition of successful alumni with an impressive record of professional accomplishments. Additionally, three collaborative pianist faculty serve the vocal division while two collaborative pianist faculty serve the instrumental division. Between 40 and 45 undergraduate students are currently pursuing degrees in keyboard performance, pedagogy, music education, or church music, and 10-15 graduate students are working to earn degrees in performance, collaborative piano, or piano performance and pedagogy.

Responsibilities :

In collaboration with ensemble directors and applied faculty, manage the collaborative assignments for faculty and student accompanists (undergraduate, graduate and teaching associates)

Support and mentor collaborative piano faculty as needed

Teach applied students in collaborative piano at the undergraduate and graduate levels

Teach allied subjects such as Vocal and Instrumental Accompanying

Maintain an active performance profile on and off campus Initiate and direct collaborative piano recruiting efforts and auditions

Restructure the Collaborative Piano Program to more efficiently and effectively serve the needs of faculty, students, and ensembles

Participate in School of Music and University service as appropriate

Engage in significant professional and creative activities and / or research within the discipline, and contribute to the rich musical and intellectual life and mission of Baylor University and the School of Music

Rank and Salary :

Full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor

Rank and salary competitive and commensurate with experience

Qualifications :

Master of Music degree required; Doctorate or equivalent professional experience preferred.

Must have experience as a collaborative piano instructor at the collegiate level; demonstrated experience coaching pianists, instrumentalists, and singers; demonstrated potential for rigorous but responsive curricular development; demonstrated organizational ability and communication skills; demonstrated ability to empower, advocate for, and value a broad range of students as shown through pedagogy, mentoring, and related activities.

Preferred candidates will demonstrate connection to and participation in national and international organizations, as well as interest in practical research and advancing the field.

All School of Music faculty are expected to demonstrate commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment for our students.
