Construction Estimator

Overview : The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive bids for heavy highway and infrastructure projects where the company serves as the General / Prime Contractor. This role requires a strong construction background, attention to detail, and the ability to analyze project data to develop cost-effective, compliant, and winning proposals. The Estimator will work closely with project managers, engineers, field staff, subcontractors, and senior leadership to position the company for success in both state and federal markets. Success in this role requires a competitive mindset with a drive to "win the work," balancing attention to detail with an aggressive approach to bidding.

Key Responsibilities :

• Pre-Bid Administration and Support :  Assist with tracking advertised projects, assembling bid folders, and preparing required documents (bonding, insurance, permits). Provide administrative support for pre-bid meetings and site visits.
• Assist with Estimating & Takeoffs :  Support Chief Estimator with reviewing plans and specifications, performing basic quantity takeoffs, and organizing data for cost estimates.
• Subcontractor & Vendor Coordination :  Help prepare and distribute scopes of work, solicit proposals, track quotes, and maintain subcontractor / vendor records.
• Bid Preparation & Addenda Management :  Assist with assembling bid packages, tracking addenda / clarifications, and preparing supporting documentation. Provide administrative support for post-bid activities.
• Compliance & Documentation :  Support collection and organization of compliance materials to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and agency requirements.
• Support Data & Systems Management :  Maintain and update estimating databases, cost history records, and subcontractor / vendor contact lists. Assist with tracking bid results and performance data.
• Collaboration & Project Handoff :  Provide support to operations staff by organizing and transferring estimating documents and assumptions after award.

Winning Work and Profitability :

Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Chief Estimator, including occasional travel to projects and after-hours bid support (10-15 times a year to meet project deadlines).
