Street Department - Sign Technician

The Sign Technician in the Street Department is responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance, repair, and construction tasks related to streets, sidewalks, and other public infrastructure within the city. This role requires a combination of technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and hands-on experience.

Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Previous experience (1+ year) in street maintenance, construction, or related field required, with demonstrated proficiency in a variety of crafts and trades.
  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) Class B is required at the time of placement and a clean driving record.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of and some experience in street maintenance and repair.
  • Skills in strong problem-solving and attention to detail, with the ability to identify issues, evaluate options, and implement solutions.
  • Skills in effective communication to interact professionally with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and members of the public.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment safely and effectively to perform assigned tasks.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks in various weather conditions and environments.
  • Ability to read blueprints and shoot grade.

    • Major Duties :

  • Perform various maintenance and repair tasks on streets, sidewalks, curbs, and other public infrastructure, using a combination of hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment as needed.
  • Assist in the installation, repair, and replacement of street signs, traffic signals, guardrails, and pavement markings to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct routine inspections of streets and sidewalks to identify defects, hazards, and damage requiring maintenance or repair, and take appropriate action to address issues promptly.
  • Operate a variety of equipment and machinery, such as dump trucks, loaders, and skid-steer loaders, to transport materials, remove debris, and perform excavation and grading tasks as needed.
  • Collaborate with other street department staff, utility workers, contractors, and external agencies to coordinate work activities, share information, and address service requests or emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reporting related to work activities, including work orders, inspection reports, materials usage, and equipment maintenance.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, procedures, and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with traffic control measures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    • This position is an essential service position and will require providing services during emergency situations.
