We're Hiring! Common Cupboard Manager. Since 2006, Common Heart has been sparking a small revolution of kindness to eradicate food insecurity and help families break the cycle of generational poverty in Union County, NC and surrounding areas. Each month, we serve an average of 8,000 neighbors through 13 food pantries—and we're not slowing down. But there's one thing missing… YOU!
We're looking for a Common Cupboard Manager—someone organized, energetic, and people-loving—to join our mission.
About the Role
As the Common Cupboard Manager, you'll be the heartbeat of our Indian Trail warehouse and delivery-based pantry — leading the incredible volunteers who bring our "friends helping friends" mission to life. You'll train, support, and inspire this dedicated team, building a strong community of service. Behind the scenes, you'll also keep things running smoothly by managing donations, inventory, vehicles, and equipment to ensure every neighbor gets the help they need.
Responsibilities
- Welcoming and working alongside volunteers to sort, pack, and distribute food
- Driving our box truck or cargo van to pick up donations (no CDL required)
- Operating warehouse equipment (forklift, pallet jack—we'll train you if needed)
- Keeping the warehouse clean, safe, and well-organized
- Collaborating with other staff to ensure food is collected, stored, and distributed safely
- Supporting special events like our annual Great Turkey Countdown
Qualifications
- Alignment with Common Heart's Core Values : Intentional Kindness, Active Engagement, Initiative, Collaboration, and Servant Leadership
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills : able to give direction, share information clearly, and build positive relationships with volunteers, donors, and team members
- Problem-solving skills and initiative : think on your feet, tackle challenges creatively, and keep operations running smoothly on busy days
- Detail-oriented and safety-focused : keep records accurate, spaces organized, and safety top of mind in a warehouse setting
- Comfortable working in a physical environment : lift and carry up to 60 lbs, and operate (or learn to operate) equipment like forklifts, pallet jacks, and a box truck
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent; vocational training in logistics, warehouse management, or nonprofit operations is a plus
- At least 5 years of verifiable work experience, ideally in warehouse operations, logistics, inventory management, or volunteer coordination; nonprofit experience is a plus
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license; must be able to safely operate large vehicles such as a box truck and cargo van
- Must pass a background check, reference check, and drug screening as part of the hiring process
Schedule
Full-time (30 hours / week) Tuesday through Saturday
