Full Time Emergency Department Registered Nurse Position\n\nShift Details\n
Full Time Day / Night Rotational schedule (3x12 hour shifts)\nEvery other weekend required\nHoliday coverage plus 2 on-call shifts per 4 weeks\nContract must run through holiday season with no guaranteed return to office on 3 major holidays\nNo on-call required if taking 48-hour contract\nMay be required to float to other facilities if necessary\nSchedule : 7am-7pm / 7pm-7am, 36 hours per week\n\nRequired Certifications\nBLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS certifications\nStroke Certification (AHA or RQI only)\nNew York State RN Licensure\n\nExperience Requirements\nOne-year acute hospital experience as a registered professional nurse\n2 years experience in the Emergency Department required\n\nPosition Overview\nThe Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses patient need, identifies the urgent or emergent care priority, and collaboratively provides direct care, applies appropriate interventions, and evaluates patient progress. The ED RN evidences skill in the use of various invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, and therapeutic interventions appropriate to manage life-threatening and routine emergency situations. The ED RN utilizes the principles of relationship based care to alleviate anxiety, provide information, and address pain / discomfort and safety. He / She assesses the physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups, their families, and support systems as appropriate.
\n\nPrimary Responsibilities\n\nPatient Triage and Assessment\n
Connects with patient and family during triage\nIdentifies the initial management of patients of all age groups and assigns priority of care in accordance with Triage Standards as outlined in the ESI training\nEstablishes rapport with patients and families, addresses comfort needs, listens carefully, assesses nonverbal communication, and provides frequent updates\nConveys and gathers information concisely and accurately\n\nClinical Care and Monitoring\nConducts primary assessment of critical need, detects and documents any major deviation from norm for all age groups within acceptable time frames\nCorrectly identifies the necessary steps / interventions required\nUses direct observation, patient / family interview, EMS report, and data to conduct secondary assessment\nIdentifies contributing factors, health history, events, or activities preceding the emergent health event\nAssesses the psychosocial needs of each individual (including family dynamics)\nDocuments and reports any suspicion of domestic violence or abuse in all age groups\nReassesses the patient to identify response to treatment and / or changes in condition and responds appropriately\n\nTeam Collaboration and Leadership\nEncourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to accomplish the best possible patient outcome\nTeaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks and interventions consistent with the individual's education, training, and scope of practice\nUnderstands the personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies\n\nPatient Education and Discharge Planning\nPrepares patient, parent, or family for diagnostic procedures and treatments\nMakes appropriate referrals for post-emergency care\nTeaches the patient what is needed to continue care / healing at home\nAssesses the patient / family learning styles and structures the sessions to maximize understanding\nAsks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the education and discharge instruction\n\nPatient -Centered Care\nSeeks to understand what is most important to the patient / family, acknowledging that the patient and family are the central focus of all care and services\nEmbraces the importance of creating a Healing Environment as a key element of professional nursing practice\nKeeps patient and significant others informed of process of care\nAnticipates patient / family needs (including notification of family / support system for the patient)\nMaintains awareness of the patient's condition / situation throughout the ER visit\nUpdates patient communication boards throughout the ED stayAlerion Healthcare Job ID #1572.
