Behavioral Evaluation and Response (BEAR) Team Crisis Counselor

General Definitions of Work

The Bear Team Crisis Counselor will be responsible for providing evidenced based behavioral health and substance use interventions to individuals identified by the Public Safety Answering System. This includes meeting clients in the community, evaluating and assessing clients for safety, determining appropriate level of care, and providing clinical or non-clinical treatment. The Crisis Counselor will be providing services in real time with the support of the Winston-Salem Fire Department.

Examples of Duties

• Responds immediately to referrals made by the PSAS via phone
• Physically responds to call location within 30 minutes of dispatch
• Engages with clients to gain cooperation in order to complete assessments
• Conducts clinical assessments to determine the appropriate safety plan and level of service referral interventions needed by collecting information from clients, providers, supports, and advocates.
• Providing evidence bases therapeutic interventions as indicated in the assessment (clinical or non-clinical).
• Establish and maintain healthy work relationships with community partners and resources
• Participates in the after-hours on-call schedule
• Provides accurate documentation within allocated time frames
• Adheres to BEAR Team's Safety Rules and Regulations
• Other duties as apparent or assigned

Physical Requirements

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and / or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and operating motor vehicles or equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic). Outside work at nights or in other low-light situations, under stressful conditions, and in inclement weather may be required.
