We are conducting an internal-only recruitment for the Assistant City Manager - Strategic Initiatives. This is a highly responsible executive-level position that assists the City Manager and Deputy City Manager in directing and coordinating the activities of assigned departments. This position will be responsible for providing strategic direction and promoting effective and efficient operations throughout the organization to align with the City's vision, mission, values, and goals. Key areas of oversight include communications, marketing, special events, economic development, urban renewal, and policy development.

Essential Job Duties :

  • Oversees the City's marketing and communications strategy to ensure alignment with community engagement and transparency goals.
  • Provides strategic leadership for economic development initiatives, including business attraction, retention, and urban renewal projects.
  • Supervises the planning and execution of high-impact special events that enhance community connection and City branding.
  • Guides the work of policy analysts and ensures data-informed recommendations support City Council and executive decision-making.

Hiring salary is dependent upon experience. The hiring range is $177,714.39 - $200,000 / annually. Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree in Public Administration or related field and nine years of progressively responsible experience in municipal management positions with authority for program direction and budget administration are required. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license.

  • Holidays : 12 paid holidays each year with the addition of an 8-hour Floating Holiday (in addition to the Floating Holiday that can be earned by participating in the Wellness Program).
  • General Leave : Leave banks are granted to employees after six months of full-time employment. General Leave may be used for vacations, personal business, illness, or other reasons as requested by the employee and approved by his / her supervisor.

  • Eligibility for Pay Increases : Employees are eligible for a pay increase during their annual appraisal following a successful evaluation. Pay increases do not come at the time of the six-month introductory evaluation.
  • Personal Computer Employee Purchase Program : To encourage the development of employee computer skills, the City offers an interest-free loan to you for the purchase of computer hardware (including a Desktop or Laptop) and software. The employee must have successfully completed their 6-month Introductory Period for eligibility.
  • Recreation Center Membership : Employees and family members are eligible for a membership to the Commerce City Recreation Center for $5.00 per person per year.
  • Golf Course Green Fees : Employees can play the City's award-winning Buffalo Run Golf Course at a rate of $9.00 for 9-holes or $18.00 for 18-holes. Employees can also purchase golf merchandise at discounted prices.
