Hone Operator
Location : Valencia, CA 91355, USA
Classification : Non-Exempt
Position Summary
The Hone Operator is responsible for setting up and operating honing machines to achieve precise dimensions, finishes, and tolerances on repair parts, particularly within the aerospace sector. This role demands strong attention to detail, technical machining knowledge, and strict adherence to quality and safety protocols.
Core Responsibilities
Operate and adjust horizontal and / or vertical honing machines
Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and work orders
Select appropriate abrasives, stones, and tooling
Measure and inspect components with micrometers, bore gauges, and other tools
Perform in-process checks to ensure required tolerances and finishes
Monitor machine operation, including coolant, oil, and tooling condition
Troubleshoot minor issues to reduce downtime
Record production data and inspection results
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Perform other duties as assigned
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required
Technical or trade school training strongly preferred
Minimum 5 years of honing or related precision machining experience
Requirements
Required Skills & Abilities
In-depth knowledge of honing machine setup and operation
Familiarity with precision instruments and shop equipment
Ability to read technical drawings and blueprints
Strong mechanical aptitude with an understanding of aerospace materials
Proficient with micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and bore gauges
Understanding of shop math, tolerances, and surface finishes
Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
Ability to follow verbal / written instructions in English
Must meet FAA language comprehension standards (14 CFR Part 145)
Subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing (FAA 14 CFR Part 120)
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, crouch, kneel, and reach regularly
Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs; up to 50 lbs regularly; over 50 lbs with assistance
Manual manipulation of tools and equipment
Use of various vision requirements (color, depth, distance, peripheral)
Exposure to noise from machinery and equipment
