Overview

Publicist (Hybrid) — UC Press (UC Office of the President, Oakland, CA)

Join a mission-driven publisher elevating books that inform, inspire, and catalyze change. UC Press is seeking a collaborative, media-savvy Publicist to plan and run publicity campaigns that secure reviews, features, interviews, and events for our authors across news, culture, academic, and industry outlets.

Responsibilities

• Craft and pitch compelling media angles; write press releases, talking points, and op-eds.
• Coordinate author tours, conferences, and virtual events; secure and amplify coverage.
• Advise authors on platform development and media readiness.
• Partner closely with Editorial, Marketing, and Sales to maximize impact and revenue.

Requirements

Location & schedule

Oakland, CA (UCOP Broadway Building). California residency required.

Hybrid : on-site at least two days / week (currently Wed / Thu).

Occasional travel (~5%).

Compensation & benefits

Classification : Marketing Specialist 2 (Grade 19).

Hourly range : $36.87–$41.04 (pprox.. $77,000–$85,700 annually), commensurate with experience.
