CNA or Patient Care Tech - Medical Unit (Nights)

Position Purpose

Under the supervision of a licensed nurse, the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) or Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides supportive care to meet the needs of individual patients and serves as a patient advocate within the health care system.

• Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) : Performs the daily comfort and care needs of patients, and assists nurses and other health care team members with patient care procedures and treatments.
• Patient Care Technician (PCT) : Performs the daily comfort and care needs of patients, assists nurses and other health care team members with patient care, and may also provide daily clerical support to the nursing unit.

Both roles assist with ensuring the safety, comfort, care, and treatment of patients according to established standards. They participate in the Hospital’s Quality Improvement and Service Excellence programs, and demonstrate understanding of the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the department and organization.

All positions of Huntsville Memorial Hospital are part of an interdisciplinary team, and as such, participate in the care and service delivery process through effective interaction with other team members.  Primarily interacts with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.

Requirements

Qualifications

Education : High school diploma or GED required for both CNA and PCT.

Experience : Prior healthcare experience preferred for both CNA and PCT.

Licensure / Certification :

Both CNA and PCT :

Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) : Emphasis on direct patient care activities such as daily comfort and care needs, under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

Patient Care Technician (PCT) : Includes the same physical and environmental demands, with added responsibilities that may also include clerical support for the nursing unit in addition to patient care
