The Bus Driver is responsible for the operations of various types of buses that will transport students and other passengers to and from designated locations. Drivers typically work without direct supervision and are fully responsible for the safety of their passengers. When not required to drive for IWCC, FT Bus Drivers assist the IWCC maintenance department under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor.
Job Duties :
- Demonstrate IWCC's core mission, vision and values
- Transport students and other passengers to and from designated destinations, overnights and weekends, adjust and plan travel routes if necessary
- Make routine checks and inspection of bus and equipment for proper operation, safety, and maintenance
- Observe and follow all applicable federal, state, local laws, and regulations governing commercial transportation
- Follow school district guidelines regarding student management and discipline; report incidents to proper personnel
- Maintain required records of bus usage and reports of operation
- Drive commercial transportation vehicles with airbrakes
- Perform minor maintenance and safety checks of commercial vehicles
- Perform a wide range of non-technical maintenance
- Maintaining grounds and grounds equipment
- Ability to do tasks as assigned in an efficient and timely manner with little supervision
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
- Monitors and performs non-technical standard repairs to building electrical facilities and systems, such as bulbs, fixtures, switches, photo cells, and outlets; assists licensed electricians as appropriate
- Monitors and performs non-technical maintenance of plumbing systems, to include standard repair of leaking fixtures, cleaning obstructed waste lines, and / or performing non-technical modifications to plumbing and water supply systems; assists licensed plumbers, as appropriate
- Performs carpentry maintenance tasks including routine sheetrock / drywall installation and / or repair, window replacement, cabinet and countertop replacement, painting and texturing, and door and hardware installation; paints interior and exterior finishes, as appropriate
- Performs snow removal, as needed
Qualifications :
High school diploma or GEDMust have and maintain a valid CDL B / passenger license and school bus driver endorsementMinimum of 6 years general driving experience is preferredKnowledge of the operation and maintenance of commercial transportation vehiclesKnowledge of federal and state traffic laws and regulationsKnowledge of bus evacuation proceduresAbility to understand and follow specific instructions and proceduresAbility to present information both verbally and in writing in a professional mannerUnderstand written instruction and complete appropriate documentation as neededAbility to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures, including Lockout / Tag outWear / use PPE at all timesSkill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environmentWork in a cooperative manner with management, co-workers, internal / external customers and vendorsAbility to pass a background check, have a valid U.S Driver's License and a good driving recordAbility to pass a drug screen & pre-employment physical if applicablePhysical Demands :
