Position Summary
Audubon magazine is offering an exciting opportunity to join our editorial team as an Editorial Fellow, working on both digital stories for Audubon.org and our quarterly print magazine. The magazine celebrates birds and addresses biodiversity loss, habitat conservation, climate change, and related planetary issues, while emphasizing diverse and inclusive science and conservation efforts. In 2021, Audubon won a National Magazine Award for “General Excellence.”
As a full-time fellow, the selected applicant will contribute digital and print content and gain insight into editorial work at a major publication. The fellowship is a training ground for a long-term career in journalism. Ideal candidates will have strong writing and communication skills and an interest in science, conservation, and environmental topics, including social justice. Fellows will develop skills to create fresh, accurate content under deadlines and tell longer narrative stories. The intent is for fellows to gain published work, experience, and job savvy to help them land a staff job or launch freelance work.
Fellows Schedule
The fellowship is approximately 35 hours per week. For fellows outside of New York City or DC, the role is fully remote. For fellows located in NYC or DC, the role is hybrid based out of either the NYC or DC office. Projected term of employment : January 5, 2026, through the end of June 2026.
