An assistant construction superintendent's job is to support the site superintendent by overseeing daily operations, managing subcontractors, enforcing safety protocols, and tracking project progress, schedules, and budgets. Key responsibilities include coordinating on-site logistics, reviewing project documents, conducting site inspections, maintaining project records, and collaborating with the project team, clients, and inspectors to ensure the project is completed safely, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination :
Assist in developing and updating project schedules and budgets, coordinating subcontractors, and managing job site logistics.
Field Management :
Conduct daily job site walks, monitor safety, and oversee the progress of construction activities.
Documentation and Reporting :
Maintain project records, including daily reports, Request for Information (RFIs), submittals, and as-built drawings.
Safety and Quality Control :
Enforce safety policies, monitor compliance with safety regulations, and conduct quality inspections to ensure work meets specifications and industry standards.
Team and Stakeholder Collaboration :
Establish and maintain positive communication with clients, project managers, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and inspectors.
Problem-Solving :
Identify and mitigate potential risks and resolve on-site challenges to maintain project efficiency.
Technical Skills :
Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and other project documents.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience :
2+ year previous experience in a supervisory role.
Technical Proficiency :
Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and blueprints.
Software Skills :
Proficiency in construction management software, scheduling software (AutoDesk), and Microsoft Office Suite.
Safety Knowledge :
A strong understanding of OSHA standards and other construction site safety regulations. Osha 30 preferred.
Soft Skills :
Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential for coordinating teams and resolving issues.
