Job Title : YouTube Thumbnail Designer

Location : Remote

Work Shift : PST (California)

Working Hours : 20 hours per week (Part-time), project-based PST overlap ideal

We are a fast-growing content production team specializing in podcast and YouTube channel development. Our mission is to help creators and brands stand out on YouTube through strategic content, sharp visual design, and high-impact storytelling. As part of our expansion, we're looking for a creative, data-minded YouTube Thumbnail Designer to join us.

We're seeking a visually sharp, algorithm-aware designer to create 3 high-impact thumbnails per video for A / B testing. This role goes beyond traditional graphic design—you must understand the YouTube ecosystem and create thumbnails optimized for click-through rate (CTR), minimalism, and genre-specific aesthetics.

While our primary need is for a thumbnail designer, having basic to intermediate video editing skills is a strong plus. This would allow the right candidate to help create short-form videos, add captions, and even make light edits independently. This extra skill set makes you even more valuable to the team and opens the door to expanded creative responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design 3 distinct thumbnails per video to enable effective A / B testing on YouTube.
  • Translate video content into clear, clickable, high-converting thumbnails.
  • Use high-res video stills from footage to craft thumbnails.
  • Apply strong visual hierarchy, clarity, and bold design choices with max 3 key elements per thumbnail.
  • Collaborate with producers and editors to align on tone, mood, and genre.
  • Consistently iterate and refine designs based on YouTube Studio performance metrics (CTR).
  • Stay current on YouTube design and algorithm trends to maintain relevance and engagement.
  • Mimic diverse styles including Alex Hormozi, Gen Z edits, Phoenix Resale, Pixel Game Squad, etc.
  • Assist in creating short-form content (Reels, Shorts, TikToks).
  • Add captions and subtitles for videos.
  • Perform simple cuts and edits for quick turnaround when needed.

Qualifications

  • Strong portfolio showcasing YouTube thumbnails or equivalent high-CTR visual content.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop (or equivalent software) for advanced image manipulation (e.g., AI-based facial adjustments, background separation).
  • Deep understanding of YouTube logic, design psychology, and how thumbnails impact video performance.
  • Able to design in various styles and adapt based on audience and genre.
  • Clear understanding of CTR, layout, and design for engagement, not just aesthetics.
  • Ability to take briefs and execute with precision, speed, and discipline.
  • Self-motivated creative executor with potential to evolve into a strategic thought partner.

    • Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience designing thumbnails for high-performing YouTube channels.
  • Strong instincts for visual storytelling and split-testing effectiveness.
  • Familiarity with tools like YouTube Studio, TubeBuddy, or VidIQ is a plus.
  • Basic to intermediate video editing skills, such as :
  • Short-form video creation (YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Reels).
  • Captioning and subtitle integration.
  • Quick turnaround edits for social media content.
