Job Summary :

The Surgical Technologist assists during surgical procedures by maintaining the sterile field and providing instrumentation as needed to the surgical team. Works under the direction of a Registered Nurse and participates in unit activities to ensure high-quality patient care.

Essential Job Functions

  • Applies sterile and aseptic technique, anatomy knowledge, and surgical procedures in invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Functions with knowledge of AORN standards.
  • Maintains and checks all sterile supplies and equipment, ensuring integrity, safety, and functionality.
  • Monitors sterile field and initiates corrective action when needed.
  • Works toward competency or demonstrates competency with Tier 1 surgical cases.
  • Contributes flexibly to individualized patient care within scope of practice.
  • Communicates effectively with the perioperative team and fully participates in Time Out processes.
  • Assists with patient transports, room turnovers, and room preparation.
  • Keeps current with new technologies, instrumentation, and procedures.
  • Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization.
  • Models Just Culture principles and maintains HIPAA compliance.

    • Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience : Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and / or Licensed Surgical Technologist.
  • License : Must be licensed as a Surgical Technologist in Colorado.
  • Certifications : BLS (American Heart Association).
  • Computer Skills : Ability to complete online learning requirements, access forms, policies, and enrollment systems within 90 days.
  • Language : Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

    • Physical Demands

  • Stand : 50% | Walk : 20% | Sit : 5% | Lift : 10% | Other : 15% (squat, bend, twist, etc.)
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Will work with various age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Potential exposure to healthcare hazards (radiation, chemicals, biological hazards, etc.).
