We are seeking a qualified Medical Assistant to join our Medical Assistant / Surgical Coordinator team. The Medical Assistant will support our healthcare providers by performing various clinical and administrative tasks. This role involves direct patient care and requires the ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, squatting, lifting, and carrying. Core responsibilities include :
- Room patients by greeting them professionally and ensuring they feel comfortable
- Assist healthcare providers during patient examinations and procedures
- Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring they are clean and stocked with necessary supplies
- Obtain patient histories and vital signs, documenting them accurately in EMR
- Assist healthcare providers in preparing and drawing injections for administration
- Perform phlebotomy procedures, including drawing blood samples and preparing specimens for laboratory testing
- Assist patients with mobility and provide support as needed during examinations
- Assist healthcare providers with facilitating all orders including physical therapy scripts / labs / drug testing protocols
- Suture / staple removal
- Casting assistance (training provided)
- Autoclave
- Responds to both written and oral correspondence regarding changes / cancellations within the department in a timely, accurate manner
- Maintains adequate time allotments for surgical procedures
- Completes accurate documentation of informed consent with patients for surgical procedures
- Provides accurate, detailed information to patients regarding test preparations, medical clearances, pre-surgical testing, and ensures proper medical clearance and pre-surgical testing has been completed
- Confirms patient’s insurance provider, benefit verifications, and obtains prior authorization for surgical procedures in a timely manner
- Books cases in a timely manner with all necessary equipment ordered upon receipt of authorization
- Initiates follow up of clearances, PAT’s, and works with PCP / Specialist directly to ensure patient is fully vetted for surgery
- Communicates as needed with physicians and other staff about any patient concerns / issues related to scheduling
- Books surgeries based on physician volume maintaining appropriate standard turn-around times
- Obtains referrals as required by insurance plan
- Schedule pre-surgical / post-op appointments as required
- Handle and transport medical equipment and supplies, requiring lifting and carrying of items up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to bend and squat to assist patients and access supplies
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks
- Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations
- Provide excellent patient care and ensure a positive experience for all patients
- Other duties as assigned by management
