Part-Time Research Assistant I - Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences' Center for Sensory and Systems Psychiatry
UTHealth Houston Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences' Center for Sensory and Systems Psychiatry is hiring a Research Assistant to support studies exploring sensory mechanisms and the brain in relation to psychiatric disorders. The lab investigates PTSD, mood disorders, and chronic pain using EEG and functional MRI to better understand brain mechanisms underlying these conditions. The research assistant will support the team by recruiting and screening participants, coordinating study visits, and assisting senior lab members with EEG and MRI sessions, in addition to organizing lab procurement and meetings. This role offers hands-on training in cutting-edge neuroscience research and opportunities to contribute to impactful studies on mental health.

Position Summary :
Under close direction of senior research staff, conducts activities to support research projects.
Position Key Accountabilities :
Certification / Skills :
General knowledge of research fields.
Skills that are not required but may support the role : Strong organizational skills for scheduling, tracking participants, and following through from recruitment to study completion. Interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with participants in a sensitive, professional, and trauma-informed manner. Ability to follow protocols and detailed instructions accurately. Comfortable with technology and software (e.g., REDCap, Qualtrics, recruitment platforms, or similar online tools). MS Office app skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and willingness to learn lab-specific software.
Minimum Education :
Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in lieu of education. Bachelor's degree or above (or in progress) in Science, Biology, Psychology, is preferred. Coursework or training in research methods, statistics is a plus.
Minimum Experience :
No years of experience.
Physical Requirements :
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and / or up to 10 pounds constantly and / or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.

Residency Requirement :
Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
