Freight Pay Team Leader
The Freight Pay Team Leader will oversee the freight payment process across a complex logistics network. They will lead a team responsible for timely and accurate payment of carrier invoices, audit verification, dispute resolution, and cost reconciliation. This role requires a strong understanding of transportation finance, vendor collaboration, and the regulatory nuances of chemical logistics.
Summary of Essential Job Functions
- Lead and mentor freight pay analysts, fostering a high-performance and collaborative environment
- Delegate tasks and monitor team performance to ensure KPIs are consistently met
- Facilitate ongoing training and skill development in audit practices and logistics finance
- Manage daily processing of carrier invoices, including validation, coding, and payment approval
- Ensure audits are performed to identify rate discrepancies, accessorial charges, and non-compliance
- Maintain relationships with carriers and logistics providers for efficient issue resolution
- Serve as the main point of contact for finance, procurement, and carrier partner
- Coordinate with 3PL operations to reconcile shipment data with invoice details
- Work cross-functionally to support budgeting, accruals, and reporting accuracy
- Analyze freight spend, trends, and anomalies to provide strategic insights to leadership
- Recommend process enhancements to improve invoice accuracy and reduce manual intervention
- Develop dashboards and reports for finance teams and operational leadership
- Ensure freight pay practices align with internal controls, SOX requirements, and chemical industry regulations
- Oversee documentation management and audit readiness for internal and external reviews
Required Skills and Qualifications
Strong understanding of 3PL operations and chemical logistics environmentProficiency in TMS, ERP, and freight audit platforms (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Cass)Advanced Excel or analytics software skillsExcellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilitiesCertified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or similar logistics certificationFamiliarity with DOT, HAZMAT, and chemical transport billing standardsExperience with international freight pay and multi-modal freight cost structuresDisclaimer
