Pipefitter

Installs or repairs water, steam, gas, or other types of pipe and pipefitting. This position is located at the United States Naval Academy. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Lay out work and measure to locate the position of pipe from drawings or other written specifications.
• Cut various sizes of pipe to correct lengths using chisel and hammer, oxyacetylene torch, or pipe cutting machines.
• Thread pipe with stocks and dies.
• Bend pipe by hand-driven or power-driven machines.
• Assemble pipe with couplings and fasten pipe to hangers.
• Perform standard calculations related to pressures, flow, and pipe sizing.
• Conduct standard tests to ensure finished pipes meet specifications.
