Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Emergency Department position in California requiring current CA RN licensure and advanced certifications.

Responsibilities

Work in the Emergency Department of an acute care hospital with 19 ED beds, 3 fast track beds, and 2 triage areas

Patient population includes standard emergency cases, STEMI, and stroke, with no trauma or teaching responsibilities

Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 4

12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required

Floating may occur to other Sacramento facilities, with rare mid-shift floating

Bedside report conducted at shift change

Cerner is used for electronic charting; experience preferred

First to float when needed

No ventilator management; telemetry required with EKG interpretation

ED support includes a charge RN, nurse aides (including EMTs and paramedics), and 24 / 7 social services

Psychiatric holds are managed up front with security support

Floor-specific orientation provided for 1–2 days with a preceptor

Hospitalist or intensivist, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy available 24 / 7

Navy blue scrubs are required; under shirts and jackets must be navy, white, or black

Holiday shifts rotate with core staff

First-time travelers are accepted

Two professional references are required : one supervisor from within the last 12 months and another from a supervisor or peer within the last 3 years

Requirements

Active CA RN license required at time of consideration

Minimum 2 years recent Emergency Department RN experience required

Current certifications : BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and PALS are required

Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips

Successful completion of the Dysrhythmia (Relias) exam required prior to acceptance

Sterile technique test for Foley catheter and central line dressing changes required during orientation

Candidates may not have worked in any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year as a direct employee
