Job Description

Position Overview :

Clean Air Engineering is seeking a versatile and dependable technician to join our team located in Palatine, IL. This position combines general building maintenance responsibilities with labor support for other operational teams. The ideal candidate will be proactive,  resourceful, and capable of performing a wide range of maintenance, repair, and operational tasks.

This is a hands-on, physically demanding role that may require occasional overtime and weekend work based on project needs or emergencies. The position requires collaboration across multiple teams and departments in a dynamic work environment.

Key Responsibilities :

Building Maintenance Technician Duties :

  • Perform routine building maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing, electrical,   carpentry, and HVAC troubleshooting.
  • Inspect and repair interior and exterior fixtures, doors, windows, and flooring.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on equipment and building systems for safety & efficiency.
  • Handle minor painting, drywall repair, and other cosmetic updates as needed.
  • Maintain clean and organized maintenance areas, tools, and inventory.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Engage and oversee outside contractors for larger maintenance projects to ensure quality, compliance, and timely completion.
  • Support emergency operational needs, including storm preparation, snow removal, or other urgent requests.

Operations Support Duties :

  • Assist with the transportation, loading, and unloading of supplies, tools, and equipment to and from worksites.
  • Provide local field support as needed, assisting with on-site tasks, equipment setup, and logistics for operational teams.
  • Assemble products, equipment, or materials in accordance with providedinstructions and specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance or adjustments on equipment toensure proper functionalit
  • Participate in site cleanups, organize storage areas, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.
  • Qualifications :

    Experience : Demonstrated and verifiable experience in building maintenance, handyman services, or a related field.

    Skills :

  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
  • Basic knowledge of building systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC).
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform tasks that require bending, climbing, and working at heights.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions.
  • Certifications (Preferred) : OSHA safety training, forklift operation, or other relevant credentials.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage tasks without constant  supervision.
  • Excellent time management and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Dependable, with a strong work ethic and willingness to adapt to evolving responsibilities.
  • Salary :

  • Entry-Level : $18–$22 / hour
  • Mid-Level (2–5 years’ experience) : $22–$28 / hour
  • Highly Experienced : $28–$35 / hour
  • Additional qualifications, like HVAC, OSHA safety training, or electrical certifications, can increase pay by $2–$5 / hour.
