Naval Architect, Journeyman (USCG / Navy / DOD)

Overview

THOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated mid-level Naval Architect to support marine engineering efforts for the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy, and commercial shipbuilding efforts in Arlington, VA . An ideal candidate will have prior experience with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs, standards, and regulations.

Typical Responsibilities

• Provide technical support and documentation for ship feasibility, concept, preliminary and contract design, integration, stability analysis, hydrodynamic and seakeeping properties.
• Evaluate systems and equipment, develop and analyze requirements, perform studies and documentation relating to hull form, stability, weights, structures, and design.
• Develop system documentation and ship specifications for surface assets and boats, perform structural analysis and design using ISO and class society standards.
• Conduct analyses on stability studies, assist with inclining experiments and weight and stability tests, and oversee design development.

Location

Primarily onsite at THOR office in Arlington / Shirlington, VA.

Travel

Up to 10% travel is anticipated.

Typical Physical Activity

Primarily desk / computer work in an office environment. May involve : repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront / shipboard environments. May involve : traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.

Security Clearance Eligibility Required

This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate must either already possess an active or interim Secret security clearance (preferred); OR be eligible for a Secret security clearance upon hire.
