Job Title : Prototyping Lab Technician - Consumer Products

Department : R&D / Prototyping Lab

Location : Milford, CT

Job Type : Full-Time, Temporary Contract

About the Job

We're looking for a mechanically inclined, hands-on technician to join our Prototyping Lab team focused on developing soap-based personal care consumer products . You'll work closely with a senior lab specialist to build prototypes, operate 3D printers, and support lab-scale processing. This is a great opportunity to gain exposure to both mechanical prototyping and formulation processes in a fast-paced R&D environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prototype Fabrication & Assembly

Build and assemble small prototypes using hand tools and lab equipment

  • Clean and finish SLA and FDM 3D printed parts
  • Machine small metal components for lab fixtures and test setups
  • 3D Printing Operations

    • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot SLA and FDM 3D printers

  • Perform pre- and post-processing of printed parts
  • Lab Support & Learning

    • Assist in lab-scale processing of soap-based personal care products

  • Maintain lab cleanliness, organization, and safety standards
  • Learn and support lab procedures under senior specialist guidance
  • Design & Documentation

    • Support CAD design tasks (SolidWorks preferred)

  • Document procedures, maintenance logs, and prototype iterations
  • Communicate findings and progress to team members

    • Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on skills
  • Experience with tools, machines, and lab equipment
  • Familiarity with 3D printing technologies (SLA, FDM)
  • Comfortable with basic machining (drilling, grinding, filing)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a lab setting

    • Preferred Qualifications

  • CAD design experience (SolidWorks)
  • Prior experience in a prototyping or R&D lab
  • Exposure to consumer product development or formulation
  • Basic understanding of electro-mechanical systems

    • Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Manual dexterity for small part assembly and machine operation
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods during lab work

    • Education & Experience

  • Associate degree in a related field or actively enrolled in an accredited program with 3 years of relevant experience

    • OR

  • High school diploma or GED plus 5 years' experience as a Toolmaker or Mechanical Technician
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in manufacturing assembly, repair, and maintenance of molds, fixtures, and assembly equipment
  • SolidWorks experience is a plus
  • Prior 3D steel and plastic printing experience is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
