Senior Tax Manager / Director (Regional Accounting & Consulting Firm)

About Us

We are a well-established, regionally focused accounting, tax, and consulting firm with deep roots in our primary markets. We combine the close-knit, collaborative feel of a small team with the resources, technology, and technical expertise of a larger firm.

Our clients range from closely held businesses and professional service firms to complex entities requiring high-level advisory support. What sets us apart is the culture; you’ll find open communication, direct access to leadership, and a genuine commitment to helping both clients and team members succeed.

If you’re looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact, mentor others, and grow within a supportive environment, this is the place for you.

Position Overview

We’re seeking an experienced tax professional to lead and oversee all phases of tax engagements, including planning, preparation, review, and research. You’ll play a key leadership role, managing staff, maintaining client relationships, and contributing to firm initiatives focused on profitability, growth, client service, and culture.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Engagement Management

Oversee planning, preparation, and review of complex corporate, partnership, trust, and individual tax returns.

Conduct and review advanced tax research; ensure accuracy and compliance with all filing requirements.

Supervise, mentor, and train staff, seniors, and interns to support their technical and professional growth.

Communicate project status, issues, and findings clearly to clients and internal leadership.

Collaborate across departments and with clients to resolve issues and enhance processes.

Profitability & Efficiency

Monitor engagement progress, budgets, and timelines to ensure profitability.

Achieve individual and team charge-hour goals.

Manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.

Participate in process improvement initiatives and leverage firm technology to increase efficiency.

Practice Growth

Identify and pursue new business opportunities through client relationships, community involvement, and networking.

Represent the firm at professional events, client meetings, and local business functions.

Demonstrate strong communication and presentation skills to build trust and credibility.

Client Focus

Exhibit deep technical knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations.

Identify client risks, opportunities, and areas for strategic improvement.

Collaborate closely with team members and clients to ensure seamless project delivery.

Perform advanced research on complex tax matters and communicate recommendations effectively.

Culture & Leadership

Model firm values and contribute to a positive, professional work environment.

Deliver timely, constructive feedback to team members and participate in performance evaluations.

Take ownership of personal development and seek opportunities to enhance your technical and leadership skills.

Resolve issues with confidence and help maintain a culture of accountability, support, and respect.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.

Active CPA license required.

5–7 years of public accounting tax experience.

Strong technical proficiency with tax software and research tools.

Proven leadership and supervisory experience.

Excellent communication and client-relationship skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Information

Reliable transportation required for occasional on-site client work.

Seasonal evening or weekend hours may be necessary depending on client needs.

This is a unique opportunity to join a regional firm that offers the best of both worlds — a small-team atmosphere with the depth and support of a larger organization. If you’re ready to take the next step in your career and contribute to a growing, people-first firm, we’d love to connect.
