What You'll Do

Principal Asset Management is seeking a risk professional to provide independent second-line financial and investment risk management oversight across multiple funds and investment strategies. This role will partner closely with investment teams, business leaders, and governance bodies to ensure effective identification, monitoring, and management of risks, while supporting the continued evolution of our risk programs and frameworks!

Investment Risk Analysis & Assessment

  • Deliver second-line market and credit risk analysis and oversight across a broad range of strategies.
  • Partner with Portfolio Managers to provide independent challenge and ensure exposures remain within established risk parameters.
  • Produce timely risk reporting, including aggregated exposures, key risk metrics, scenario analysis, and stress testing.

Fund Risk Oversight

  • Provide risk oversight for U.S. fund platforms, with a focus on liquidity and market risk management.
  • Lead the U.S. Mutual Liquidity Risk Committee and collaborate with managers to validate liquidity profiles and stress-testing protocols.
  • Conduct value-at-risk (VaR) analysis, back testing, and tail risk assessments to evaluate market and credit exposures.
  • Maintain and enhance fund risk frameworks to align with best practices and evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and present oversight reporting for Boards and other governing bodies.
  • Program Management

  • Support the maintenance and execution of key risk programs, including trading counterparty monitoring, investment model governance, derivatives, and liquidity risk.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of risk methodologies and the investment models governance framework.
  • Manage and maintain the enterprise investment model register.
  • Risk Consulting & Engagement

  • Serve as a strategic partner to the business on financial and investment risk topics, including sustainability risk, new product launches, and derivative exposure.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the organization to share best practices and drive risk initiatives forward.
  • Provide consultative support on strategic projects and emerging risk issues.
  • Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, plus 8-10 years related work experience required (preferable in the asset management industry in risk management or portfolio management).
  • CFA, FRM or advanced degree in finance, econometrics, or statistics is preferable.
  • Broad knowledge of financial and investment risk management practices and in-depth experience with risk tools like Barra, Aladdin, Bloomberg, Axioma, required.
  • In-depth experience within a global asset management firm with asset experience, preferably in Equities and / or Fixed Income
  • Strong technical understanding of market risk, credit risk, liquidity risk, scenario analysis, stress testing, and VaR / tracking error methodologies.
  • Must have proven and strong abilities and skills in the areas of written and verbal communication, presentations, attention to detail, critical thinking, analytical, problem solving, decision making, consulting, influencing, and relationship building skills
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively work independently and within a collaborative team environment, lead others, take initiative, resolve conflict, be flexible, and prioritize multiple tasks required
  • Proficiency working with the Microsoft Office suite of applications
  • Proficiency with programming languages such as Python, R, MATLAB, or equivalent tools for quantitative analysis and large data set handling. Machine learning experience is a plus.
  • This position may be subject to SEC restrictions on personal political contributions.

  • Salary Range Information

    Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and / or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

    Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

    $137000 - $185000 / year Work Authorization / Sponsorship
