Description :

SLPs work with students in grades PK-8, providing 37.5 hours of service per week.

SLPs are integrally involved in efforts to prevent academic failure.

They utilize evidence-based practices in prevention initiatives, such as Response to Intervention (RTI).

SLPs conduct assessments to identify students with communication disorders and inform instruction.

Interventions provided by SLPs are age-appropriate and tailored to meet individual student needs.

These interventions are selected through an evidence-based decision-making process.

Service delivery models in schools tend to be more diverse than in other settings.

Therapy techniques employed are clinical in nature for students with disabilities.

SLPs design schoolwide programs that utilize a continuum of service delivery models.

They ensure that services are provided in the least restrictive environment for students with disabilities.

Additionally, SLPs may provide services to other students as deemed appropriate.

Accountability for student outcomes is a critical responsibility for SLPs.

They engage in data-based decision-making, including the collection and interpretation of data.

Compliance with federal and state mandates, as well as local policies, is essential.

Activities may include Individualized Education Program (IEP) development, report writing, and treatment plan documentation.
