The Prince George's County Department of Permitting, Inspections & Enforcement (DPIE) is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an Engineer I / II (Engineer 1G) grade G24 / 27 position in the Site Road Plan Review Division. This position provides entry-level engineering and administration support within the Division of Site / Road Plan Review, DPIE, and engineering support to a specific County Engineering District.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed reviews of Site grading, paving and storm drainage plans, stormwater concepts, and stormwater management plans for properties and subdivisions to ensure compliance with codes, standards, and regulations.
- Conduct periodic site reviews of developments to become familiar with projects and identify unusual circumstances.
- Review Street Grade profiles submitted by developers' engineers for subdivisions, commercial development, or extension of utility systems.
- Assist in the preparation / review of technical designs of construction plans, right-of-way plats, specifications, and engineering cost estimates for highway, drainage, and miscellaneous County roadway improvement projects.
- Prepare / review basic calculations and develop engineering plans and specifications in accordance with codes and standards.
- Process waivers from code requirements when necessary.
- Prepare / review cost estimates to determine Performance Bond requirements for roadway and drainage construction projects.
- Review and provide comments on proposed subdivisions to advise roadway alignments, widths, grades, easements, and compliance with Master Plans.
- Ensure complete and timely distribution and review of plans and permits by all Departments; track review status within due dates or approved extensions.
- Coordinate with County organizations, private engineering / architectural firms, and utility representatives involved in construction.
- Ensure permit requirements are completed prior to permit issuance and manage peer reviewers as needed.
- Prepare for meetings with project status and necessary materials and agendas; monitor the status and accuracy of ePlan and ePermits.
- Coordinate road culverts and bridge design proposals with DPW&T prior to approval.
- Maintain communication with citizens, developers, builders, professional engineers, and legislators; represent DPIE at meetings, Board of Appeals hearings, or committees.
- Perform other related duties as assigned; participate as a critical / essential employee in emergency or special activities; maintain assigned equipment in proper working order.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or a related scientific field (civil, environmental, transportation, architectural, mechanical, fire protection, agricultural, agronomy, chemical, industrial, construction).Or a Professional Engineer (PE) License may be substituted for the degree.Additional Information
