10 : 00 PM 6 : 30 AM (Overnight Shift)
Job Summary :
The Lab Assistant performs essential laboratory support activities that ensure accurate, efficient, and high-quality operations. This role assists professional laboratory staff in preparing, processing, and maintaining specimens, reagents, and equipment while maintaining strict adherence to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities :
Receive and sort specimens into appropriate laboratory departments.
Perform routine instrument maintenance on designated equipment.
Handle centrifuging specimens, label printing, and temperature data recording.
Prepare reagents and media for laboratory use.
Prepare specimens for testing, including aliquoting, worklist creation, and slide preparation.
Conduct QA / QC tasks as assigned and resolve pending lists.
Locate and retrieve missing samples efficiently.
Decontaminate work areas and perform weekly radioactive wipe tests.
Maintain files and departmental records accurately.
Replace and manage gas cylinders safely.
Operate the laboratory computer system and other PCs for data entry and reporting.
Dispose of biohazardous materials according to safety standards.
Complete all required training and competency checklists in a timely manner.
Follow all personal protective equipment (PPE) and laboratory safety protocols.
Required Experience :
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
No prior experience required; medical assistant training helpful.
Math and science coursework preferred.
Nice-to-Have Experience :
Previous experience in a clinical or diagnostic lab environment.
Familiarity with specimen processing procedures and basic lab equipment.
Required Skills :
Strong attention to detail and ability to retain complex information.
Organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Effective communication and courteous interaction with coworkers and internal customers.
Preferred Skills :
Basic computer literacy for data management and reporting.
Understanding of QA / QC procedures and laboratory protocols.
Familiarity with safety and decontamination practices.
