JOB SUMMARY :

The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, directing, coordinating, reporting, budgeting, and managing the housekeeping department’s employees and equipment. The role ensures maximum cleanliness and order throughout the facility, while also overseeing laundry services for both resident clothing and facility linens.

QUALIFICATIONS :

High school diploma preferred.

Business and personnel management training preferred.

Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move equipment and supplies in excess of fifty (50) pounds.

JOB REQUIREMENTS :

Physically and mentally capable of performing routine job duties.

Strong administrative, leadership, managerial, organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills.

Professional and personable with residents, families, and staff.

Compassion, patience, and understanding for the elderly.

MAIN DUTIES :

Support the facility’s philosophy of care and help achieve its goals and objectives.

Develop and update job descriptions, orientation checklists, and personnel policies for housekeeping and laundry staff, submitting for Administrator approval.

Recruit, interview, and verify references to maintain adequate staffing levels.

Recommend staffing needs and department organization to the Administrator.

Supervise staff scheduling to ensure continuous, uninterrupted service.

Ensure all staff understand departmental authority and enforce disciplinary actions when necessary, with proper documentation.

Oversee orientation of new employees, explaining personnel policies and job duties.

Provide training and in-services for housekeeping and laundry staff.

Delegate responsibilities to designated staff in supervisor’s absence.

Review staff time clock reports for accuracy and submit for payroll processing.

Oversee purchasing, storage, inventory, and distribution of housekeeping and laundry supplies.

Maintain linen inventory at a 3 : 1 ratio to ensure adequate supply.

Supervise laundry operations, ensuring :

Proper handling of isolation linen and clothing.

Correct laundering and drying procedures.

Proper distribution of clean clothing to residents.

Timely distribution of bed linen and towels to all wings.

Supervise disposal of biohazardous waste in accordance with regulatory procedures.

Participate in required fire, disaster, and evacuation drills :

Fire : 1 per shift per quarter (annually) per IDPH requirements.

Disaster : 2 per shift annually per IDPH requirements.

Elopement : 1 per shift per quarter per Joint Commission requirements.

Lead performance improvement projects in line with JCAHO guidelines.

Provide safety and biohazard training to other departments.

Maintain updated MSDS sheets and ensure accessibility for staff.

Stay current on JCAHO, Federal, and State regulations, updating department policies and in-servicing staff as needed.

Implement plans of correction following State or Federal surveys.

Share resident information only with authorized personnel or agencies.

Adhere to fire, disaster, safety, infection control, and evacuation policies and procedures.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Administrator.

Serve as weekend Supervisor as part of the Department Head monthly rotation.
