Description :
The Sonographer performs sonography imaging procedures, which may include ultrasound-guided procedures.
The Sonographer performs routine and complex sonography imaging by acquiring and processing patient exams in accordance with accrediting bodies and / or manufacturer guidelines and as outlined in department protocols.
The Sonographer selects proper sonography protocols and techniques to obtain optimal data.
The Sonographer reviews cases with the Client Fetal Medicine provider when appropriate.
The Sonographer reviews labs and patient history to perform the correct exam.
The Sonographer is responsible for reviewing ultrasound orders for completeness and accuracy.
The Sonographer reviews patient history and supporting clinical data for medical necessity.
The Sonographer takes steps to acquire additional information if needed from the patient or ordering provider.
The Sonographer demonstrates acceptable imaging quality standards by critiquing positioning, technical factors, and alignment.
The Sonographer reviews patient data for accuracy, quality, and completeness.
The Sonographer transfers and verifies image data in PACS and other digital and reporting systems, providing necessary medical history and information for provider interpretation.
The Sonographer utilizes web servers and email systems to send exams for preliminary readings after hours.
The Sonographer is responsible for maintaining imaging equipment and the workplace environment, including maintaining supply inventories and orderliness of the work area.
The Sonographer recognizes malfunctions and service needs and reports service needs in a timely manner.
The Sonographer ensures patient, visitor, and environmental safety.
The Sonographer reports on safety events immediately, including those that are a near miss.
The Sonographer assists in the instruction of students and new staff as necessary.
The Sonographer may perform duties of Sono Lead or Imaging Coordinator in their absence.
The Sonographer meets productivity levels as established by department benchmarking.
The Sonographer assists other areas during downtimes to maintain productivity.
The Sonographer may be required to perform duties of other modalities within the department to which licenses are held by the technologist / sonographer.
The Sonographer complies with other job descriptions of cross-trained modalities also performed within the department.
The Sonographer participates in educational activities within the scope of ultrasound, which may include presentations for CME credit.
The Sonographer creates AS OB reports following each ultrasound performed.
The Sonographer follows protocol to provide additional imaging as needed, based on findings during an OB ultrasound exam.
