Energy Plant Operator I
GENERAL SUMMARY :
Operates the energy plant including identifying, analyzing and completing all preventative maintenance, repair and adjustment of steam, chilled water, hot water and soft water producing equipment. Ensures daily work schedule and project assignments are completed through individual or cooperative efforts. Works under the leadership and direction of the energy plant operator lead and the engineering manager.

8. Performs system and equipment repairs during scheduled outages of steam, chilled water, condensate, heating hot water systems and air handling units.

12. Follows all safety programs including lock out / tag out program.
13. Assists with elevator maintenance. Verifies problems, removes trapped passengers, calls for service and maintains work records.

18. Follows policies and procedures when responding to calls outside of the Energy Plant; properly determines needed actions based the problem and knowledge of repair / intervention necessary.
19. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
20. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
21. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
1. Knowledge of steam generation, heating, air conditioning, water conditioning and electrical equipment and systems.
2. Knowledge of occupational hazards and precautions related to energy plan operations and conditions.
3. Knowledge of applicable codes governing energy plant production and operation.
4. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
5. Skill in the maintenance and operation of energy plant equipment, materials and tools.
6. Skill in the use of portable metal working tools, electrician tools and test equipment.
7. Ability to inventory supplies, evaluate equipment / material needs and order necessary items.
8. Ability to perform work under stressful and emergency situations.
9. Ability to assist in the installation of ductwork and the maintenance of air conditioning and heating equipment.
10. Ability to assess and identify equipment malfunctions.
11. Ability to interpret sketches, diagrams, blueprints, instructions, and specifications
12. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
13. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
High school diploma or equivalency required. Coursework / technical training in engineering systems preferred. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with boiler or energy plant systems preferred.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS :
Must complete Underground Storage Tank Class C Operator training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
(Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)
(DOT) Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and / or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Long periods of standing, lifting, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, climbing and crawling with occasional exposure to high voltage, high temperatures and heights from 25 to 120 feet, dust and noise and exposure to wet and damp places. Job requires working in cramped, awkward positions in sometimes uncomfortable locations. Regular exposure to various chemicals and heavy equipment.
