The company educates and supports the ECLS community by providing highly trained bedside specialists, conducting ECLS patient transports, evaluating and building ECLS programs, and pursuing quality improvement initiatives and research to advance the ECLS field.

About the Role
Job Title : ECMO Specialist
Location : Amarillo, Texas (On-Site; Must be local and within driving distance)
Employment Status : PRN position
Scheduling
The PRN Specialist must be willing to provide a minimum of 5 days of availability throughout each month.
Job Summary
The ECMO Specialist provides bedside critical care to patients receiving ECMO therapy within IEC customer facilities. The ECMO Specialist has a functional understanding of ECLS and mechanical circulatory support (MCS) and will participate in required IEC training for continuing education. This position reports to the clinical operations manager; at specific accounts an alternate IEC designee / coordinator may serve as initial contact in the chain of command.

Skills and KnowledgeExcellent communication with hospital staff, physicians, patients, family members, and professionals.Completed ECLS education modules with understanding of extracorporeal technology and treatments.Clinical DutiesProvide continuous monitoring of ECLS patients and circuits (up to a 1 : 3 ratio).Monitor and adjust ECLS blood flow and sweep gas flow per guidelines or orders.Recommend changes to patient management based on data and status.Review laboratory and radiographic reports and report irregularities to the ECLS physician / advanced practice provider.Collaborate with ECLS physicians, specialists, and other professionals to coordinate tests and evaluations.Monitor coagulation tests and adjust anticoagulants as per hospital guidelines or orders.Monitor intake and output and make recommendations per guidelines.Verify circuits and bedside carts are stocked and in the correct location.Coordinate interventions with bedside staff to provide best-practice care.May assist with initiation of support and decannulation as directed with the surgical team.Perform other duties per training and competency level, as directed by the ECLS physician and management.Documentation and Communication
Log hours, location, and expenses in ADP and Concur; schedule travel as needed.Document appropriately in the patient chart per hospital guidelines.Communicate professionally with scheduling, credentialing, leadership, and administrative teams.Promote IEC culture and professional standards.Training and Competency
Develop ECLS knowledge through modules, wet labs, and circuit training; introduction to systems including Cardiohelp, CentriMag, Spectrum, and Rotaflow.Bedside orientation with experienced IEC Specialists and exposure to diverse patient demographics.Demonstrate competency in ECLS equipment and tools; new specialists work with a preceptor before solo staffing.Complete system-specific competencies within required timeframes and understand VA vs VV ECMO, cannulation strategies, and changes in native cardiac output.Demonstrate circuit checks, alarm recognition, and safe handling of decannulation, air management, and equipment failures.Understand native blood flow, coagulation processes, ventilator basics related to ECLS, and sedation / therapeutic considerations.License and credential maintenance as applicable (RN, RRT, CCP); state licenses for travelers as required; maintain BLS / AHA credentials.Physical Requirements
