Job Responsibilities
- Oversee all activities related to Manufacturing / Process Controls, installation, documentation and testing activities of all equipment including robotics, assembly, on-line fixtures, conveyor systems, etc.
- Act as technical expert for electrical controls, program logic controls, robot programming and troubleshooting, vision inspection system programming.
- Program or modify HMIs (e.g.; RS Logix 500 & 5000, Allen Bradley, Siemens, Ignition and Python).
- Determine correct controls for all poke yokes (Vision Systems, PLCs, and Robotics).
- Write logic to create handshakes between equipment and IT systems.
- Build and wire control panels; keep and update all equipment drawings and electrical prints up to date as changes are implemented.
- Create and deliver training materials; train support personnel as required.
- Identify and correct safety issues inside the facility; ensure a safe working environment by following safety policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain effective maintenance specifications and preventative maintenance programs for all equipment to ensure productivity.
- Participate in the design of custom process automation machines, equipment, systems, devices and fixtures to support assembly requirements.
- Recommend equipment improvements and / or manufacturing methods to improve performance.
- Coordinate mechanical / electrical system modifications with external vendors and maintenance personnel.
- Support maintenance personnel with diagnosing software and electrical system problems; work with production, maintenance and engineering to optimize equipment performance.
- Assist in quote preparation by reviewing and helping select robots and PLC products for identified applications; support cost-saving initiatives.
- Initiate Engineering Change Requests for equipment changes; assist in vendor contract negotiations as needed.
- Implement continuous improvement strategies to reduce scrap costs and improve productivity and quality.
- Assist in new program launches and pilot builds; help determine resolutions to customer issues through process and design changes; support IATF16949 : 2016 implementation.
- Develop Best Practices to ensure lessons learned are applied to new programs and processes.
- Support cost savings activities : problem solving, root cause analysis, capital payback analysis, and lean manufacturing analyses.
- Engage with vendors to determine product specifications and procure equipment / materials for continuous process improvements.
- Provide estimates of production times, staffing requirements and related costs for management decisions, including simulated trials.
- Must be extremely flexible for off-shift availability and representation.
- Investigate new and emerging technologies relevant to Magna Modular Systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field; or equivalent combination of education and 4 years' experience.Minimum 3 years' experience with automated equipment in a manufacturing environment.Minimum 3 years' experience PLC programming.Special Knowledge & Skills
Solid understanding of multi-axis robotic systems and conveyor transport systems.Hands-on capability in installation and programming of robotic and PLC controls systems in a manufacturing environment.Strong oral and written communication skills; customer-focused.Strong computer skills; understanding of manufacturing, assembly, sequencing and equipment principles.Physical Demands & Work Environment
