R&D Maintenance Services, Inc. provides operations and maintenance services on U.S Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects throughout the southeast - since 1980. We are the Operations and Maintenance Contractor for the Black Warrior – Tombigbee Waterway Project providing machinery and facility maintenance and repair on several hundred miles of waterway and 9 locks / dams / spillways on the system. Position is based in Tuscaloosa. R&D is an EEO Employer.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION :
The Machinery Maintenance Mechanic maintains structural, hydraulic, and mechanical systems on USACE waterway facilities (locks, dams, spillways, buildings etc.) Duties are to maintain, test, diagnose, repair, dismantle, adjust, and assemble machinery and supporting equipment in accordance with drawings, diagrams, sketches, operational manual, specifications, and related documentation.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS :
- Repair or replace hydraulic control valves, cylinders, relief / by-pass valves.
- Repair or replace complete lock valve assemblies (tainter valve).
- Repair or replace spillway gate lifting components.
- Maintains dewatering pumps.
- Maintains, repairs, or replaces air compressors, hydraulic pumps, and associated systems.
- Maintains, repairs, or replaces lubrication systems.
- Repairs gravity flow gates and structures.
- Dismantles mechanical equipment and performs repairs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
In-depth knowledge of the practices and terminology of the millwright and mechanical trades.In-depth knowledge of industrial machinery operations and maintenance; Lock / dam and spillway knowledge preferred.In-depth knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical, and electro / mechanical systems.Demonstrated ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and specialized equipment used in structural, hydraulic, and mechanical systems repair.Have strong mechanical aptitude, and ability to read drawings, reference manuals, repair manuals, and assembly instruction guides.Planning and organizing skills to effectively prioritize and plan work activities; uses time efficiently; plans for and leads additional resources; analyze and solve problems; make decisions; exercise good judgment; perform well under pressure; adapt well to change.Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.Ability to operate manlift and forklift and obtain required certifications / licenses.Physical requirements : bend; crouch; working with hands; hold; kneel; lift and / or carry up 20-50 pounds; pull; push; reach at or below shoulder level; reach overhead; sit; stand; squat; stoop; stretch; twist; and walk.Performs work safely and complies with company policies and regulatory requirements.Must be familiar with Lock Out / Tag Out procedures for all energy sources.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS :
Five years of verifiable work experience as a maintenance mechanic in a heavy industrial maintenance setting. Ten years preferred.High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional technical education in related field preferred.Welding experience preferred.Required to successfully complete background check, MVR, and drug / alcohol screenings.Some field travel and occasional overtime.
