POSITION SUMMARY : The Health Information Technician is responsible for maintaining and securing health information in an electronic system; ensuring that patient medical records are scanned and made available timely and accurately; comply with standards, rules, regulations as defined by state, federal, HIPAA and governing regulators; and processes requests for release of information (ROI).
Education : High School graduate or equivalent. Additional coursework in health care field required. Courses in anatomy and medical terminology helpful.
Experience :
- Two (2) years previous experience in Health Information Management required.
- Two (2) years customer service experience required.
- One (1) year Electronic Health Record experience preferred.
- Bilingual experience a plus.

Essential Functions
Utilize multiple electronic health care systems to manage health information.Provide authorized individuals with timely access to patient information without compromising the security of patient records.Accepts and processes authorizations for patient medical information according to HIPAA regulations.Accepts subpoenas and other legal documents and processes according to HIPAA and organization policies.Maintains and operate a variety of health record indexes and storage and retrieval systems to collect, classify, store and analyze information.Ensure all health information is properly scanned.Faxes medical information to other medical facilities for continuing care.Answers and / or addresses requests for information, i.e., immunization records, physical forms, etc.Creates and maintains the Monthly Medical Record Invoice Report.Communicates with external contacts to obtain medical records for clinic and ancillary services.Purges medical records and file maintenance in offsite storage facility's software.Assists with audits and researchPerforms other duties as assigned.Marginal Functions
Maintains inventory of supplies and distributes to all sites as needed.Works on special projects as requested.Attends department and agency meetings.Assists with training of newly hired staff.Assists with training volunteers.Operates as lead HIM Tech as needed.Supervises : None
