The Music Activity Instructor is to provide music workshops and activities for young people to learn new skills; as well as an avenue for self-development, exploration, and expression.

Reports to : Program Director, Uncommon Boys Excellence Charter School

Location : 225 Patchen Avenue, Brooklyn, NY11233

Hours : Up to 12 hours a week; Non-Exempt

Schedule : Flexibile schedule, Monday - Thursday, 4pm to 6pm, Friday, 12pm to 4pm

Major Duties

Design, plan and conduct activities and workshops in specified areas of education, specifically music and the performing arts.

Submit lesson / activity plans in-advance.

Conduct activities enriched with music skills whenever possible.

Plan and implement a culminating event or project.

Complete daily progress reports and attendance.

Manage setup, operation and clean-up of activities and the organization, inventory and storing of relevant supplies and equipment.

Attend all staff meetings and staff development trainings sessions, as specified.

Guide program participants in examining choices, following directions and becoming involved in program activities.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required; Associates degree or Bachelors degree preferred.

At least 2 years of Music Instruction required. Experience with adolescents preferred.

Experience and / or training relevant to the position required.

Must be able to engage young people and set structure and limits in a group setting.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Must have a commitment to work from a trauma-informed, strength-based and youth and family development perspective.
