Responsibilities

• Provide legal counsel, when appointed by the Court, to individuals who cannot afford to hire a lawyer; perform as trial counsel by representing defendants during courtroom proceedings, researching case law, and communicating with the defendant to determine trial strategy, including cross-examination procedures, witness selection, jury selection, and opening and closing arguments.
• Handle misdemeanor cases in the Pensacola, Florida office; manage a reasonable caseload; enjoy professional independence with strong support from office administration and senior attorneys to maintain a healthy balance between personal and professional life.
• Participate in training and professional development; belong to the Florida Public Defender Association (FPDA); enjoy paid travel to FPDA-hosted continuing education seminars and receive CLE credits.
