Reports To : Information Systems Director

Location : City Hall

Safety Sensitive : This position is designated as safety / security sensitive and is subject to pre-employment, reasonable suspicion and random drug and alcohol screening.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

This Safety Sensitive (SS) position is primarily responsible for protecting a company's network and systems from cyber-attacks. This involves researching upcoming IT trends, creating contingency plans, reviewing suspicious activities, reporting security breaches, and educating the rest of the company on security measures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Collaborates with users to discuss computer data access needs, to identify security threats and violations, and to identify and recommend needed programming or process changes.

2. Uses data encryption, firewalls, and other appropriate security tools and applications to conceal and protect transfers of confidential digital information.

3. Develops and implements plans to safeguard digital data from accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure; adheres to emergency data processing needs.

4. Reviews violations of security procedures; provides training to ensure violations do not recur.

5. Monitors and restricts access to sensitive, confidential, or other high-security data.

6. Modifies security files and applications as able and necessary to provide specialized access, allow new software to be installed or integrated, or correct errors.

7. Performs risk assessments, audits, and tests to ensure proper functioning of data processing activities and security measures.

8. Safeguards system security and improves overall server and network efficiency by training users and promoting security awareness.

9. Determines when to update virus protection systems by monitoring current reports of computer viruses; facilitates or performs needed updates.

10. Manages and support Antivirus.

11. Manage and push out software updates.

12. Operate a city vehicle as needed.

13. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Broad knowledge of such fields as accounting, marketing, business administration, finance, etc. Equivalent to a four year college degree, plus 3 years related experience and / or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and understand general business / company related articles and professional journals; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to utilize common sense understanding in order to carry out written, oral or diagrammed instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several known variables in situations of a routine nature.

Valid drivers license

A+, Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)
