Mineral Exploration Assistant Driller
Arcosa Aggregates is seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Assistant Driller to support our mineral exploration activities. This role assists the driller in safely and efficiently operating exploration drill rigs used in the discovery and evaluation of aggregate resources. The Assistant Driller plays a vital role in core recovery, sample collection, equipment maintenance, and site safety.
Day to Day
- Actively promote safety awareness and continuous improvement through positive recognition
- Comply with all industry safety rules, procedures and applicable government regulations
- Perform daily pre-shift equipment and workplace inspections to maintain equipment performance
- The ability to operate one piece of mobile equipment (haul truck, farm tractor, water truck, rubber tire backhoe, front loader, etc.)
- Assist in the setup, operation, and breakdown of drilling rigs and associated equipment
- Support the driller in conducting rotary, core, and auger drilling methods
- Handle and transport drill rods, casing, and core samples
- Ensure accurate labeling and storage of samples for geological analysis
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections of drilling equipment
- Maintain a clean and organized job site and comply with all company and regulatory safety standards
- Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment at drilling sites
- Monitor drilling parameters and support record-keeping activities
- Operate support vehicles and machinery as needed
- Participate in safety meetings and contribute to hazard identification and reporting
- Maintain strong communications with other plant employees and operators
- Perform other duties or responsibilities as assigned
About You
Valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Class B CDL within 6 months of hireAbility and willingness to travel and occasionally work on / through weekendsOn the job trainingPrompt, regular, and predictable attendancePositive, team-based attitudeThe ability to stand, stoop, bend, lift, walk, climb stairs, ladders, and catwalks up to 60 feet as requiredThe ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, dry, and dusty)High school diploma or GED equivalentWillingness to learn how to operate drill rigs and train as a driller over timePreferred Certifications and Skills
Class A or B CDLHeavy Equipment OperationMechanical ExperienceMSHA CertificationWelding and FabricationWorking Conditions and Physical Environment : While most equipment has air conditioning, there may be times when responsibilities require periods of work in hot, cold, wet, dry, and dusty conditions
