    • Position Overview :

  • We are seeking a Sustaining Mechanical Engineer with strong SolidWorks and mechanical design experience to support the development of advanced propulsion systems and spacecraft components.
  • This role will involve both new product development and sustaining engineering , with a focus on making necessary adjustments to in-progress projects to optimize performance, manufacturability, and reliability .
  • The ideal candidate will play a key role in designing, analyzing, testing, and refining mechanical assemblies for spaceflight applications .

    • Key Responsibilities :

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks .
  • Perform structural and thermal analyses to ensure the integrity of spaceflight hardware.
  • Generate detailed engineering drawings, GD&T, and documentation for manufacturing.
  • Support sustaining engineering efforts , making design modifications and refinements to ongoing projects as needed.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams , including electrical and propulsion engineers, to integrate mechanical designs into larger systems.
  • Support prototype fabrication, assembly, and testing to validate designs.
  • Conduct trade studies to optimize designs for performance, weight, and manufacturability .
  • Work with vendors and machinists to source and manufacture precision aerospace components.
  • Ensure designs meet spaceflight requirements , including vacuum compatibility, thermal stability, and structural integrity .

    • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. 2+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in the aerospace industry or other high-tech fields.
  • Strong experience in sustaining engineering , including adjusting and improving designs of in-progress projects.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks , including part and assembly modeling, drawings, and design for manufacturability.
  • Experience with FEA analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation ) for structural and thermal evaluations.
  • Familiarity with aerospace hardware considerations , such as materials selection, vibration testing, and thermal management.
  • Experience with NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports) and ECOs (Engineering Change Orders) .
  • Strong vendor experience , particularly in working with aerospace machine shops .
  • Ability to conduct vendor calls and coordinate component sourcing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail .
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
