University Facility Services at the University of Arizona is looking to fill an Insulator II position. The successful candidate will possess Journeyman field experience in performing insulation work on various forms of commercial piping installations including chilled water, steam, hot water, and steam condensate lines. This position requires experience and familiarity with all forms of insulating material and their applications including indoor and outdoor projects. The candidate should be well versed in the estimating process including pricing and procurement of materials and the estimating of labor hours related to in-house projects. This position provides insulation support to plumbers, pipe-fitters, all Renovation Services, new installations, repairs and replacement projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Applies insulating materials to exposed surfaces of equipment boilers, tanks, hot or cold air ducts or pipes and steam generators for the purpose of insulating, protecting or dampening.
• Lays out, cuts, forms and shapes insulation.
• Applies cements, foams and adhesives to insulation.
• Inspects areas to be insulated, ensuring they are clean and ready for insulation.
• Prepares surfaces (such as cleaning or sanding) to ensure proper installation of insulation materials.
• Installs insulation on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, pipes, and ducts.
• Installs insulation on industrial equipment and systems to prevent energy loss or equipment overheating.
• Estimates material and labor for in-house renovation and maintenance projects.
• Inspects existing insulation systems to check for wear and damage.
• Repairs or replaces damaged or deteriorated insulation to restore energy efficiency and safety.
• Recommends energy-saving solutions based on insulation inspections.
• Ensures that insulation is properly installed to meet the desired thermal performance and energy efficiency goals.
• Understands blueprints and building plans to determine the type and amount of insulation required for specific projects.
• Work alongside other construction professionals, such as electricians, plumbers, and HVAC specialists, to ensure that insulation is correctly installed in coordination with other systems.
• Communicates with clients or supervisors about the insulation process, cost, and timeline.
• After installation, ensures that the worksite is cleaned and free of debris from insulation materials.
