Description
The Tax Accounting Assistant provides vital support to the Tax Department by handling a variety of administrative, clerical, and basic accounting tasks. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced professional environment. Working closely with supervisors, managers, and partners, the Tax Accounting Assistant helps ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the tax team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with processing client payroll, including tracking hours, deductions, and benefits.
- Prepare and submit payroll tax documents for clients, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Assist with maintaining accurate financial records and supporting documentation for tax engagements.
- Organize and maintain client tax files, workpapers, and supporting documentation.
- Reconcile accounts, verify financial data, and process adjusting journal entries as needed.
- Support tax staff with preparation of schedules, reports, and workpapers.
- Perform data entry and assist with general ledger maintenance, including accounts payable / receivable and fixed asset schedules.
- Maintain accounting controls by following established policies and complying with federal, state, and local requirements.
- Assist with research projects and special assignments as directed by supervisors or managers.
- Protect sensitive client and firm information by maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Stay current with professional knowledge through training, reading, and continuing education opportunities.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Basic understanding of accounting principles, journal entries, and reconciliations.Familiarity with payroll processes, deductions, and payroll tax concepts.Strong attention to detail and accuracy when reviewing financial data.Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and comfortable learning accounting software (QuickBooks, CCH, etc.).Clear written and verbal communication skills.Reliable, professional, and maintains strict confidentiality.Works well in a team environment and supports colleagues effectively.Able to follow established procedures and ensure compliance with regulations.Adapts easily during busy periods such as tax season.Motivated to learn and grow in accounting, payroll, and tax services.
