Within LCE, the Naval Power (NP) System Safety team plays a vital role in ensuring mission readiness and safety across complex defense systems.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior System Safety Engineer to join our Naval Power System Safety team in Tucson, Arizona . This position involves leading and executing system safety programs in compliance with MIL-STD-882E and other applicable defense standards. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver with a strong systems or safety engineering background and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and programs.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and execute MIL-STD-882E compliant System Safety Programs , or customer-approved equivalents.
Perform System Safety Program tasks and analyses , including hazard identification, assessment, and risk mitigation.
Coordinate with customer safety representatives and gain approval from Safety Review Board authorities
Collaborate across Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to identify, eliminate, or control hazards throughout the product lifecycle.
Conduct system and design analyses and brief findings at technical reviews and safety approval meetings.
Interpret and apply system requirements customer specifications , and military standards related to system safety.
Prepare reports, documentation, and presentations for internal stakeholders and government customers.
Support program safety through production, operation, demilitarization, and disposal phases.
Qualifications You Must Have
Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
5+ years of relevant Systems Engineering or Safety Engineering experience
(An advanced degree may substitute for additional years of experience.)
Experience in System Safety Engineering Systems Engineering Electrical Engineering Software / Firmware Engineering , or equivalent safety-related discipline.
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
Qualifications We Prefer
Experience supporting DoD System Safety Programs or weapon combat systems
Familiarity with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and proposal development
Ability to solve complex problems using available resources and research.
Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills , with the ability to communicate effectively across teams and stakeholders.
Proven leadership and project management skills ; capable of managing a safety program and guiding supporting personnel.
Master's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
