Regional Mental Health / Regional Veteran's Court Victim Advocate

Overview

This is a limited temporary position funded through August 2026 with the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. The recipient will serve as a Victim Advocate in the Regional Mental Health / Regional Veteran's Court, a specialized court handling cases where the defendant has mental health issues. The Victim Advocate will provide advocacy and coordinate with Mental Health Court staff, assess and address victim safety concerns, provide direct services to victims at critical stages of prosecution, and act as a liaison between victims and key court and community resources to ensure victims' rights are honored in the criminal justice system.

Responsibilities

• Provides immediate crisis intervention to victims with highest priority given to safety
• Provides support, assistance and information to victims throughout criminal proceedings, including explaining the legal process and keeping victims informed of hearings and outcomes
• Assesses victim needs and referrals to appropriate community resources
• Initiates contact with victims upon receipt of police reports / charges and maintains contact throughout prosecution to address safety concerns and gather input for prosecutors and courts
• Prepares victims for interviews and court proceedings; attends court hearings as needed to support victims and advocate on their behalf
• Consults and coordinates with prosecutors daily regarding case issues and represents victim concerns, needs and input
• Acts as a liaison between victims and criminal justice entities as well as community resources; provides system advocacy
• Plan and schedule work for volunteers and supervise as needed
• Maintain cooperative relationships with community resource agencies and provide training when appropriate
• Assist with civil orders of restraint when necessary
• Gather and compile statistical data
• Engage race, equity and social justice principles in regular job duties and decision making

Qualifications

Work Location and Schedule

Work Location : King County Courthouse, 516 3rd Ave, Seattle, WA 98104. Work Schedule : 40-hour week, typically Monday – Friday, 8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m. Alternative schedules require supervisor approval. Hybrid schedule with a minimum of 2 in-office days per week, subject to business needs and a telecommuting agreement. New hires may be required to work in the office four days per week for the first six months.

Salary

Range 50 -$37.47 (step one) - $47.50 (step ten)

Union Membership

Positions in this classification are represented by Teamsters Local No. 117.
