Job Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med Surg / Progressive Care Unit (stepdown) position requiring AZ or compact RN license and recent telemetry experience.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Work in a Med Surg / Progressive Care Unit (MS1) with both telemetry and stepdown beds in an acute care hospital setting
  • Unit has 18 beds, including 6 PCU-capable beds, and all rooms are private
  • Patient population includes telemetry, stepdown, and med surg patients, with common diagnoses of AMI, stroke / TIA, pneumonia, renal (dialysis), afib RVR, SIRS, and diabetes
  • Nurse to patient ratio is 1 : 4 for telemetry and 1 : 3 for PCU / stepdown
  • CNAs split the floor, each taking up to 9 patients, and support staff include tele techs, charge nurse, HUCs, and PCTs
  • Use of Allscripts - Sunrise EMR and Phillips monitors for telemetry
  • RNs are required to validate monitor tech interpretations and document at least every 4 hours
  • 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required; weekend coverage includes Friday & Saturday nights
  • Floating may be required to all med surg units
  • RNs care for telemetry and stepdown patients, including those on high flow O2 or home CPAP as needed
  • Expected to administer and monitor medications such as Cardizem, amiodarone, bumex, Lasix, integrillin, octreotide, and protonix
  • Orientation is 2-3 days with a preceptor
  • Unit may house COVID patients when needed, with modified air handling as appropriate
  • 24 / 7 in-house support from hospitalists, pharmacy, and respiratory therapists
  • No in-house IV team; RNs manage IVs as needed

  • Active AZ or compact RN license required
  • At least 1 year recent experience in telemetry and acute care med surg; 2 years preferred
  • Certifications required : ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NIHSS
  • Experience with Phillips telemetry monitors preferred
  • Ability to work night shifts and every other weekend
