Overview
Senior Counsel US Market. Mastercard is seeking an experienced attorney to provide comprehensive, end-to-end, strategic support to the U.S. business based in Purchase, NY. This role will support U.S. Markets and the marketing teams. The U.S. markets team builds relationships within the issuer, merchant and processor community to expand acceptance and drive revenue and supports our co-brand, commercial and public sector customers as well as our acquirers and processors. The IMC team builds relationships with various properties and to increase awareness of Mastercard brand and the team also works to establish relationships with individual ambassadors and influencers.
Role
The Senior Counsel will be an integral member of the highly skilled Americas Region legal team, supporting the largest region at Mastercard, including learning about the Mastercard products and services.
Responsibilities
- Acts as a day-to-day advisor for our sales clients by partnering with the business and legal specialists to deliver on strategy, including expanding Mastercard issuance and acceptance and securing Mastercard share with issuers, processors, merchants, acquirers, and prepaid program managers.
- Structure, draft, and negotiate vendor and talent contracts, sports and entertainment sponsorship agreements as well as content and technology licensing agreements.
- Collaborate with internal subject matter experts to better understand and advise holistically on our products and relevant intellectual property, compliance and privacy issues.
- Work cross-functionally across issuer, merchant, product and services business lines to provide holistic support to the region.
- Autonomously structure, draft, review and negotiate complex customer and product agreements, including identifying legal and business risks and recommending solutions.
- Partner with US compliance, privacy and IP leads to ensure products, services and sponsorship agreements comply with corporate policies.
- Identify needed process improvements and efficiencies; own and execute solutions to support transformation strategy and drive streamlined processes to increase ease of doing business.
- Work closely with business teams on ideation, strategy and execution of charitable and other promotions and advertising, and counsel clients on complex marketing program constructs.
- Assist with the creation of training materials and guides for business clients.
Experience and Skills
Able to work independently and collaboratively, spot issues, prioritize and multi-task effectively in a fast-paced sales environment.Keen business insight and strong communication skills to interact confidently with internal clients, Mastercard customers and law department colleagues, including senior management and Mastercard executives.Complex transactional legal experience at a reputable law firm or as in-house counsel.Strong drafting and negotiating skills with the ability to understand and simplify complex concepts, issues and deal structures.A team player, willing to take on responsibilities and roles that support the team, department, region and the company.JD from an accredited law school; admitted to and in good standing with the NY bar.Corporate Security Responsibility

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary based on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Purchase, New York : $187,000 - $300,000 USD
