Purpose
Under the administrative direction of the Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, and day-to-day work direction of the Media Production Specialist III (MPS_III), the Film and Digital Media Technician supports the department’s technical services and manages Digital Media (DM) equipment and facilities.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the full range of production techniques and equipment for cinematography, lighting, editing, color grading, sound recording and mixing, and graphics. General knowledge of production principles and practices for instructional media. Working knowledge of tools for authoring interactive multimedia products delivered via a variety of synchronous and asynchronous techniques. Strong writing and editing skills with a solid foundation in English grammar. Strong research skills and broad knowledge of resources and techniques which communicate information through multimedia productions. Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with staff and students. Ability to understand operating procedures and underlying technology to troubleshoot equipment and systems. Strong organizational skills to manage and coordinate productions, budgets, and other projects. Ability to train students involved in production projects. Ability to develop, create, stage and evaluate visuals and production effectiveness. Ability to learn techniques in TV, film, radio, and audio productions. Ability to use and maintain studio space, camera, lighting, and other production equipment. Working knowledge of safety requirements including handling hazardous chemicals and materials.
Minimum Qualifications
Entry to the first level within this classification requires a basic knowledge of and skill in graphics, still or motion picture photography, or television production. This knowledge and skill are normally obtained through a bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least six months of experience in still and motion picture photography, including thorough knowledge of video production techniques.
Specialized Skills
Experience with post-production or audio / visual production, or equivalent. Excellent organizational, record-keeping, and time management skills sufficient to prioritize work and function independently under deadlines and interruptions. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with a variety of pre-production, production and post-production systems, software, and media equipment. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with persons at all levels. Working knowledge of basic electronics, troubleshooting techniques, and simple repair methods for video and audio systems. Demonstrated ability to address the essential functions of this position.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in Adobe Suite software, Avid Media Composer, and DaVinci Resolve. Experience with an ETC Ion XE DMX lighting console, ETC Eos Family software, or equivalent; basic understanding of color science and industry standards (SMPTE, ITU, DCI). Technical fluency with Oracle / PeopleSoft, CSU Common Management System or equivalent information system; Microsoft Office Professional; Google Workspace; 25Live; intranet drives; and internet browsers.

Physical Environment
Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. The position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods of time. Travel between campus offices and off-campus locations may be required.
