Key Responsibilities of the Position
The Senior Cost Accountant’s primary responsibility is to own and lead the cost and inventory functions within the accounting team. This position will provide significant input into month-end close and budget processes as well as supporting business decision making and other accounting processes. Partnering with operations, this position will also lead, monitor and execute regular inventory counts. This position will report directly to the Senior Controller and will support the CFO / other senior leaders in a pivotal role to support Nellis’ exponential growth.
- Responsible for all cost accounting-related activities : month end close, maintaining accurate costs, inventory management / purchasing, and freight tracking / monitoring
- Establish relationships with key cross-functional stakeholders, including but not limited to Operations / Supply Chain / Sales to develop a deep understanding of processes, business drivers, costs and revenue
- Build processes and implement improvements including a focus on change management and internal controls
- Partner with operations to lead, monitor, and execute the regular inventory count process for improved inventory accuracy
- Drive operational improvements and efficiencies on inventory and labor to improve business profitability and internal controls
- Ensure validity and accuracy of invoices and ERP inventory through analysis, internal validation and coordination with stakeholders across Nellis
- Partner with operations teams to ensure invoice accuracy including knowledge of cost reduction impact on financials
- Support ad-hoc month-end, audit and internal controls compliance as requested
- Become a trusted advisor to business partners
Requirements :
Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field; MBA or CPA preferred4+ years of work experience in Cost Accounting preferably in a distribution and / or inventory environmentExperience in leading, monitoring and executing inventory count processesAbility to understand the inventory environment and the associated financial processesKnowledge of supply chain, receiving, inventory flow, operations process and distribution principlesAbility to effectively analyze transactional level detail in an ERP system and articulate the key findings to managementAdvanced Microsoft Excel skillsExcellent attention to detail and accuracyExcellent written and verbal communications skillsExcellent project and time management abilitiesAble to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a fast-paced work environmentStrong team player
