First-year (Step 1) officers have an earning potential of approximately $87,000 with shift differential, built-in overtime, and holiday pay included. Special Teams and / or Special Assignments increase earning opportunities even more.
Note : Employee is considered a "trainee" when hired as an out-of-state lateral officer until AZPOST Certification is achieved (approximately 3-4 weeks, depending on testing availability).

Pre-Approved Testing Process - By Invitation Only
Qualified applicants will receive separate testing notifications via email and must be available to participate on the date / time scheduled; no make-up tests will be given. Testing will consist of the following components :
Arizona POST Certified Officer Applicants
In order to apply as an AZPOST certified lateral Police Officer, candidates must have completed an AZPOST approved Academy and currently possess an active AZPOST Peace Officer Certification. Applicants currently certified by AZPOST will not be required to attend the academy.
Out-of-State Lateral Officer Applicants
Out-of-state lateral Police Officers must have completed a sworn Police Officer Academy and currently possess an active Peace Officer Certification. They may gain AZPOST Certification through the waiver process; if completed, they will not be required to attend the academy. For more information regarding the waiver process, visit the Arizona Peace Officer Standard and Training Board website. Out-of-state lateral Police Officers will be hired as "Police Officer Trainee" and will remain "Trainee" until AZPOST Peace Officer Certification is received.
